Getting your logo perfect

Your logo is your chance to sum up your business in a quick, easy and memorable way. It is one of the first things a potential customer will see when visiting your website and it will be on your business cards, your letterheads and other materials to help you get your brand ingrained in their memory.

It is important to get your logo right, ideally before launching your business. It is difficult to change once you have established your brand and, depending on how big the company is if you do decide to change later on, can be very costly.

Ideally, you should create your logo in a program that allows you to create an extremely high-resolution image, such as a vector image. Vector images mean that an image will always be perfectly ‘crisp’ no matter how far you zoom in, and you can also give it a clear background which often looks more professional as it can be adapted to fit any colour or picture on the site.

If you can afford it, a professional designer may be a good option as it is their ‘specialist subject’, but if not then you can probably come up with something reasonable yourself with a little effort and research. Keep the design simple but relevant, make sure the font, if used, suits the images and spend time getting the perfect colour.
